What is Sod?

Sod (also referred to as turf or turfgrass) is the term for grass and the soil beneath it that is held together by roots. Sod is normally used on lawns, golf courses and commercial properties to establish a green, virtually maintenance-free lawn quickly. Sod is also used to quickly repair patches of lawn where the grass has died such as at golf courses, homes or commercial businesses.

How Sod is Grown, Harvested and Delivered

Sod is normally grown local on “sod farms” where it is professionally fertilized, watered, and vacuumed on a regular basis. Sod is grown local for lower delivery costs and quicker delivery times. The sod is then harvested using specialized equipment. It is normally harvested into rectangle rolls that are approximately 4′ long. Once the sod is cultivated, it is loaded onto trucks for delivery to homes and commercial businesses where it will be installed.
